STOP
FIGHTING
YOUR STORE

I'm Josh De Vera, a Shopify VA and consultant for store owners and small ecommerce teams. I spent two years inside Shopify's Technical Merchant Support team, which means I've already seen whatever is broken on your store. Now I fix it directly instead of writing you a help article about it.

Taste Culinary Food

Role · Full store build & technical SEO
Problem

A Philippine café-ingredient distributor carrying Toschi, Catcher Gourmet, and Cafetto, selling entirely through brick-and-mortar. Reach was limited to people who walked in, and there was no catalog structure to build an online business on.

Approach
  • Built the store from scratch on Shopify's Horizon theme
  • Catalog, product pages, and a homepage that reflects the brand
  • Metafields structuring product attributes so filters and collections work
  • Payment gateways, tax settings, and checkout configured end to end
  • Shopify Flow automations for subscriber notifications and stock alerts
  • The technical SEO foundation, laid at build time rather than bolted on later
Outcome

A live storefront the owner can actually run day to day, with a catalog structured to grow and operational alerts firing without anyone watching the admin.

Adahlia Boutique

Role · Store management & audit programme
Problem

A UK women's fashion boutique with a growing catalogue and a storefront that needed to stay credible as it changed. Trust and compliance details were drifting, and navigation was getting harder to follow as more products landed.

Approach
  • Ongoing store management rather than one-off fixes
  • A structured audit programme run on a repeating cycle
  • Trust and compliance gaps closed as they surfaced
  • Navigation reworked so a larger catalogue stays findable
  • Structured data added so products are readable by search and AI engines
Outcome

A storefront that stays tidy and credible while the catalogue keeps changing underneath it, with audit findings tracked and closed rather than accumulating.

Two years
on the inside.

For two years (2024–2026) I worked on Shopify's internal Technical Merchant Support team, helping merchants untangle the hard problems — theme code, the Admin API, performance, and the dozens of small things that quietly cost stores sales. I'm an IT undergrad at Gordon College, and I learned the platform from the inside out.

That job taught me where stores actually break, and it's almost never where the owner thinks. The app everyone blames is usually innocent. The undocumented theme edit usually isn't.

Now I freelance from Olongapo City, Philippines, working directly with store owners. I'm confident about what I can do and honest about what I can't — no inflated promises, just careful work on Liquid, theme development, SEO/AEO, and Core Web Vitals.

Questions

Straight answers, so you can decide whether it's worth a call.

What does a Shopify VA actually do?

The work a store owner doesn't have time for: theme and Liquid edits, catalog and product page setup, store audits, page speed, technical SEO, and the day-to-day admin that piles up. I do it directly in the theme where I can, rather than adding another app for something a theme already handles.

How do we start working together?

A free consultation call first, so I can see the store and you can decide whether I'm the right fit. If it makes sense to continue, I follow up with a written audit: what I'd fix, ordered by what will actually move revenue, with a price against each item. You keep that list whether or not you hire me.

Can you work on my existing theme, or do I need a rebuild?

Almost always your existing theme. A rebuild is expensive and usually unnecessary. Most of what slows a store down or costs it sales is fixable inside the theme you already run, and I'll tell you honestly if I think a rebuild is genuinely the better call.

Do you work with stores outside the Philippines?

Yes. I'm based in Olongapo City on GMT+8 and currently work with stores in the Philippines and the United Kingdom. That timezone overlaps comfortably with Australian and UK hours, and with early mornings in the US.

What if I only need one thing fixed?

That's fine. Plenty of work is a single fixed-scope job: a speed pass, a section built in Liquid, structured data added, or one audit. There's no requirement to sign up for ongoing management, and no lock-in if you do.
